What Is a No-Scalpel Vasectomy?
A no-scalpel vasectomy (also called a keyhole vasectomy) achieves the same permanent contraception as a conventional vasectomy — blocking sperm from entering the semen — but through one small opening instead of scalpel incisions. Less tissue disruption typically means less swelling, less bruising, and a faster return to normal life, usually with no stitches at all.
At HE Clinic, the procedure is performed by Dr. Teanchai Siricharoensang, a urologist with 13 years of senior experience at Samitivej Hospital, under local anaesthesia in our private Thonglor clinic.
One Small Opening, Both Sides Treated
Through a single tiny midline opening, the urologist gently accesses each vas deferens — the tube that carries sperm — and seals both, so sperm can no longer mix with semen. Everything else works exactly as before.

No-Scalpel Vasectomy — FAQ
Is a no-scalpel vasectomy better than a traditional one?
Both are equally effective as contraception. The no-scalpel technique uses one small opening instead of scalpel incisions, which health authorities including the NHS note involves less bleeding and discomfort, with a lower complication rate. Recovery is typically smoother.
Does it hurt?
The procedure is done under local anaesthesia — most men feel pressure or tugging rather than pain. Mild soreness for a few days afterward is normal and manageable with supportive underwear and rest.
Is it really done in one visit?
Yes — consultation, local anaesthesia, and the procedure itself all happen in a single visit of under an hour from arrival to discharge, and you go home the same day. The only later step is the follow-up semen test a couple of months on, which confirms the vasectomy has worked.
Will it affect my testosterone, erections, or ejaculation?
No. A vasectomy only blocks sperm from entering the semen. Testosterone production, sex drive, erections, orgasm, and ejaculation all continue as before — semen looks and feels the same, it just no longer carries sperm once you're cleared.
Is it effective immediately?
No — this is important. Sperm can remain in the tubes for months after the procedure. You must keep using contraception until a follow-up semen test confirms you are sperm-free, typically at least 2 months (and sometimes longer) after your no-scalpel vasectomy.
Does it protect against STIs?
No. A vasectomy is contraception only — condoms are still recommended for STI protection when appropriate.
Can it be reversed?
Vasectomy should be considered permanent. Reversal procedures exist but are complex, expensive, and not guaranteed to restore fertility — which is why our consultation includes honest counselling to make sure this is the right decision for you before anything is scheduled.
