Long Hair DHI is a hair transplant performed while preserving as much of your existing hair length as possible. The technique itself follows the same medical principles as our standard DHI: follicular units are harvested from the donor area using FUE-style extraction, then placed with an implanter pen for controlled angle, direction and density.
The difference is what happens to your hair. Because the transplanted grafts still carry longer hair shafts, and because your surrounding hair is left long, most patients see an immediate cosmetic preview and can go back to normal life without an obvious shaved head. That is the entire reason men choose it.
What "Non-Shaven" Really Means

Long Hair DHI Compared With Standard DHI
Medically the two are the same procedure. The difference is entirely about your appearance during recovery, and what that convenience costs.

How the Day Runs
Assessment & Design
Medical history, hair loss pattern, scalp condition and donor availability reviewed, then your hairline, angle and density distribution are planned.
Donor Preparation
Long hair is sectioned and managed so the donor area can be accessed. Limited shaving is used where needed to extract grafts safely.
Local Anaesthesia & Harvest
Most cases are done under local anaesthesia. Follicular units are extracted and held under controlled conditions to protect viability.
Implantation
Grafts are placed with the implanter pen following the planned angle, direction and density, working around your preserved hair.
Time in clinic depends on graft count and case complexity. Your doctor will give you an estimated schedule before treatment.
What Happens After the Preview Fades
This is the part Long Hair DHI patients most need to understand. That immediate result you see on day one comes from hair shafts attached to the grafts, and those commonly shed. It is normal, and it is not the transplant failing.

Long Hair DHI, Your Questions
Will any of my hair be shaved at all?
Your recipient area keeps its hair, which is the whole point of the technique. However, limited shaving in the donor area is usually needed to extract grafts safely. Your longer hair above it is sectioned to cover this, so it should not be visible in normal daily life, but it is not literally zero shaving anywhere.
Why does it cost more than standard DHI?
Working around preserved hair is slower and more technically demanding than working on a shaved scalp, so it takes longer chair time. Medically the procedure and the final outcome are the same. You are paying for the discretion during recovery, not for a better result.
My transplanted hair is falling out. Has it failed?
Almost certainly not. The immediate cosmetic effect comes from hair shafts still attached to the grafts, and those commonly shed in the first weeks. The follicle stays in place and enters a resting phase before producing new hair. Growth typically begins at 3 to 4 months, with results visible at 6 months and the full picture at around 12 months.
Can I go straight back to work?
Most patients find the appearance manageable within days, which is why they choose this option. That said, you will need to avoid rubbing the area, intense exercise, swimming and strong sun exposure for the period your doctor advises. Follow that guidance regardless of how normal your hair looks.
Will it stop my hair loss?
No. A transplant relocates existing follicles, it does not treat the underlying cause. Untreated areas can continue to thin around the new growth. Depending on your diagnosis, your doctor may recommend a maintenance plan alongside the procedure.
